1. Implement Incentivized Learning and Competitions

Seventy-seven percent of employees said their favorite type of holiday bonus is cash, so keep employees learning and engaged during the holiday season by offering incentivized competitions involving cash rewards.
For instance, the sales associate who beats his or her quota by the largest margin can receive a large cash bonus. Or, the employees who complete the most learning modules related to their field of expertise could receive a paid day off, and so on. Competitions that offer tangible and desired incentives will motivate employees to stay engaged and focused.

2. Publicly and Privately Recognize Employee Performance

According to research highlighted by Glassdoor, organizations should reward employees in creative ways during the holiday season. When employers recognize and thank their employees during the holiday season, they are much more likely to see better performance from their employees the following year.
If you want to develop your employees into productive members of your organization long term, consider publicly recognizing them for their achievements and performance by handing out awards for stellar performance, and send them private letters and notes of gratitude and recognition.
Additionally, consider recognizing employees who went above and beyond to learn or implement new skills over the course of the year and the positive impact it had on your overall organization.

3. Challenge Employees to Implement Skills They’re Learning While They’re on Vacation

To keep your employees engaged with their training programs during the holidays, challenge them to apply skills or training they’re acquiring while they’re on vacation.
For instance, employees undergoing leadership training could try to implement certain leadership skills or techniques while they’re traveling to visit family or while they’re with their families or even while they’re volunteering at the local soup kitchen. And sales trainees could implement their relationship-building skills with others while they’re in line at a store, and so on

4. Encourage Strategic Goal Planning for the Approaching Year

Offer opportunities for your employees to plan for the year ahead during the holiday season. Talk to them about what they’re interested in learning and doing in the coming year, and help them plan goals and learning opportunities for the approaching year that will help them achieve their goals. This will keep them engaged and focused on what they want to accomplish in the future.
To keep your employees engaged and continually learning during the holidays, consider implementing one or more of the seven L&D ideas mentioned above and in yesterday’s post.
