Your How-To Guide: Things to Do Before and After the Training & Development Summit (Part 2)

Yesterday’s post highlighted things to do before attending this year’s Training & Development Summit.  Here are some things you’ll want to do after you attend the summit.

Create a Content Marketing Plan

If you take a lot of notes and capture a lot of photos and video (when permitted) at the summit, you’ll have a lot of things to write about and share with others. When you return from the summit, organize everything you jotted down and captured, and plan out blog posts, e-mails, white papers, social media posts, and other content you or someone in your organization can write or share. Some of the content may be about your experience at the summit while other content may be inspired by things you learned while you were at the summit. Capitalize on information and trends discussed at the summit to illustrate your own take on what you learned and to showcase your own thought leadership.

Connect with Others on Social Media

After the summit, find people you talked with or received business cards from on social media, especially LinkedIns. Follow the companies and vendors you’re interested in, as well as your workshop leaders and sponsors. And be sure to follow any blogs or social media profiles of thought leaders and innovative organizations you learned about.

Follow up with Contacts

If you had an interesting conversation or meeting with someone while you were at the summit, send them an e-mail recapping your encounter and why you should stay in touch. You can also send thank-you notes to your workshop leaders. Do this as soon as possible so that your encounter is still fresh in their minds, too, and so that it doesn’t keep falling to the bottom of your to-do list.

Seek Out Resources

While you’re at the summit, you’re bound to hear about a new book, a new podcast, a new app, or a new online resource someone uses and recommends. Make note of this information and seek it out as soon as you return. Otherwise, you’ll forget. And if you hear all about new case studies and research, look it up as soon as you get home, too. You’ll want to make note of any new software, technology, or vendors, too, so you can consider them as soon as you get back to work.

Share Your Experience with Others

If you discovered information that would benefit others inside your organization while you were at the summit, share it with them when you get back—especially if they petitioned you for such information. You can write a blog post about your experience and what you learned, share video clips, host a webcast, have a meeting, etc. The new trends, techniques, and information you encounter about training and development will benefit everyone at your organization, so don’t keep your experience and everything you learned to yourself.
Now that you see how to get the most out of it, consider registering for this year’s Training & Development Summit today.
